12 Florida Pool Prosm • February 2022 DIGGING UP IDEAS Some will require drainage affidavits or product approval numbers when others don't. Some departments want one copy where the other wants two or even three. Some want paper copies with digital backup. Even the scope of work from different licenses is interpreted differently where in one jurisdiction you can permit a pool with screen enclosure on same permit but down the road they must be permitted separately. It would be nice to get a more consistent approach to permitting. Since these concerns are not isolated to the pool industry we can align ourselves with the Home Builders Association, the plumbers, the electricians, the roofers, and air conditioning industries for a united front. This coalition can work with BOAF (Building Official Association of Florida) to find the common ground. This could be as simple as creating a state standardized set of permitting documents, or an outline of stateapproved procedures sowe areworking with a master checklist statewide. Many building departments have great computer systems with easy to use portals for submissions and scheduling inspections. We need to find a way to share these systems with others that are struggling to maintain antiquated systems that cause more problems than they solve.
