We hope everyone stayed safe and did not suffer much through our recent, active hurricane season.  We know many of you have loved ones in areas that were also affected.  They remain in our thoughts and prayers.  If possible, please consider donating either resources or time to help out those less fortunate.

The 40th annual FSPA Swimming & Diving Meet was held at Sailfish Park in September. We sponsored three schools this year.  Here are some of the letters from the coach and swim team members:

Dear Northeast Florida Pool Association,

On behalf of the Baker County High School swim team and myself, I would like to thank you for sponsoring our team for the 2017 FSPA Swim Meet.  I was privileged to attend the FSPA meet in 2016 for the developmental meet, but this year I qualified for the invitational.  We had 11 swimmers qualify for the invitational and four of those swimmers represented our team in finals!  I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity to participate in such an amazing swim meet.  Not only did I enjoy the swimming, but I also enjoyed getting to know people on my own swim team better.  As I am a senior, I am sad I will not be able to participate in the FSPA swim meet in 2018, but am thankful for the two years I was able to compete.  Thank you once again for giving my team and I the support we needed to be able to participate.  Sincerely, Karlee Nelson, Captain – Baker County High School Swim Team

Northeast Florida Chapter FSPA,

I would like to sincerely thank you for awarding a scholarship for our team to participate in both the Invitational and Developmental Swim Meets.  We have been going to this meet ever since we began the team in 2012.  It has become an integral part of the development for our swimmers.  It is the trip that our swimmers look forward to during the season.  The experience that the kids receive from participating in this meet is immeasurable.  I am appreciative that such a meet is offered and that our local chapter is able to help to make it possible financially to attend the meet.

Sincerely, Jonathan A. Mobley, Sr., Head Swimming Coach, Baker County High School

The State Board meeting was held October 5-6 in Lido Beach.  This was rescheduled from September due to the storms.  Greg Bowers presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to PIPAC from our Chapter!

October 6 the Chapter held an Oktobefest at Big Dawg’s Pierside at Jacksonville Beach.  More than 110 members and guests danced to live music from Down Pine, our own David Pruette’s band!  There was lots of food and drinks plus seeing old friends!  It was a great event and lots of fun was had by all who attended!  Thank you to David Pruette’s Electrical Services for helping sponsor the event!

Save the date, November 15 is the annual Member Appreciation / Table Top event.  We are heading back to Maggiano’s!  There will be some new, exciting events this year!  Say cheese, there will be a photo booth among other fun things.  Not to mention the 25 vendors showcasing their products, good company, food and drinks!

Important: There are going to be several Director positions opening on the Board in the coming year. Debi Garner, Pools by John Garner, our long-time executive director / chapter coordinator /
wearer of many hats, is stepping down after 10 years of serving our Chapter.  A task force has been formed to help find a replacement. If you are interested in this position, please contact Brian Curts, Eagle Pools.  Additionally, Treasurer Kim Quintal’s, Blue Haven Pools & Spas, term will be coming to an end. In accordance with our by-laws, you must have been on the Board as a Director for at least one year to assume this position.  If you have an interest in serving your Chapter, let Brian Curts or Debi Garner know.  Ballots will be going out in the fall.  Help support your industry.  It does not take much time and you will be rewarded many times over by volunteering.

Please submit any and all suggestions to the Board for events and classes you would like to see us offer for next year.  Remember this is your Chapter and your voice counts.

Ken McKenna FSPA President The countdown is on: it’s 100 days until the 2018 Everything Under the Sunsm Expo! My first thought was to give you 100 reasons to attend, but that might be a little excessive. So here are a few top reasons which come to mind. As a member of FSPA, admission to […]

Ray Pearen Fresh Finish Pools Who of us out there hasn’t seen a bad equipment installation?  Pump motors right up against the wall, 90° PVC in front of and straight out of the pump, heaters before filters and salt cells before heaters, the list could go on and on. As installers, sometimes we are forced […]
