East Central Florida Chapter

East Central Florida
Chapter Coordinator:  Diane Michael
(386) 538-1083

It was another fun monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 9. Thank you so much to Gorman Company for sponsoring our night. Keith Quint had a number of great things to share. We celebrated the retirement of Dave Sekel and welcomed Larry Drumb to Gorman Company. We also were able to meet Ms. Reese with Team Kareem and passed out education reimbursements. Thanks to everyone who attended!

We want to wish our First Lady Emily Drumb, a very special happy birthday on April 18! We also want to say happy anniversary to HornerXpress for celebrating their 50th year – what an accomplishment!

The Chapter was contacted by Sonja Dickey, coordinator for the Central Florida Chapter, who met Ms. Reese with Team Kareem. While attending a field trip about three years ago, her son Kareem drowned in a pool. He was left unattended by the staff. In his memory, Ms. Reese developed a program that provides free swimming lessons and related services to children and families. The Central Florida Chapter donated $2,500 and the East Central Florida Chapter wanted to support the program too! We were thankful to meet Ms. Reese and hear her story and efforts. Blue Ribbon Pools donated $125, Waldhauer & Son donated $100, Pool Captain Corp. donated $100 and the Chapter donated $250! Our Chapter is proud to support worthy causes such as Team Kareem! Please check them out on Facebook: TeamKareemMemorialFoundation.

The next Chapter meeting is May 14 at the Daytona Houligan’s off of International Speedway. Thank you very much to our sponsor, SCP. As always, our meetings are from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and $15 includes dinner and a soft drink.

Many requested that we put together a CPR class and because of our great relationship with the YMCA we are able to get this scheduled for a great price. It is $20/per person and you can submit for education reimbursement from the Chapter. The class will be held May 1 from 5:00 p.m. –
9:00 p.m. in the boardroom at the YMCA, 761 E. International Speedway Blvd., DeLand. This class has a cap of 12 people so please RSVP to Diane at FSPAEastCentralFL@FloridaPoolPro.com or 386-538-1083 today!

The East Central Florida Chapter will hold its 4th Annual Chapter Silent Auction on June 11 during our regular scheduled meeting sponsored by HornerXpress at The Table in DeLand. The proceeds from this event stay local and help make our Chapter as healthy as can be. The FSPA is committed to industry advancement, awareness and success. With your help we can ensure these goals are met. We are looking for various items that pool builders, service professionals and those in our industry would like to bid on…even restaurant gift certificates. Your support is needed! Thank you in advance for your generous donation. Please feel free to contact Diane Michael at (386) 538-1083 if you have any questions. Sincerely, President Larry Drumb, FSPA, East Central Florida Chapter

Please bring a $25 gift card to your favorite restaurant to the next meeting. This will help us kick off the items in our auction! Thank you so much to Houligan’s and Mrs. Pendleton for donating restaurant gift cards!

Thank you to our supporters of the East Central Florida Chapter’s Education Scholarship Program! Gold Sponsors: SCP, Gorman Company, and HornerXpress. Bronze Sponsors: Jack’s Magic, Wayne’s Solar and thank you, Blue Ribbon Pools.

Reminder to submit your applications for educational reimbursement up to $350 per selected applicant per quarter based on a point system geared to create Chapter involvement, community enrichment and continuing education. Contact Diane to receive the program paperwork for you, your employees, family members or community members. Congrats to Rebecca Mitchum, Blue Ribbon Pools Store, who received $350 for her recent class.

Our Chapter has wanted to partner with our neighboring Northeast Florida Chapter for a while. Last year, we had many of their member’s join us for our Cornhole Tournament and we would like to continue this collaboration. Our Chapter is hoping to put together a foursome for their upcoming Golf Tournament on Friday, April 26 at The Champions Course at Julington Creek.

We want to thank Dave Sekel, Gorman Company, for his six years of service in the pool industry. Dave is retiring in April and starting his new life of leisure! We wish Dave and his family all the best and appreciate the support over the years! Best wishes, Dave!

All meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Dinner cost is covered with a $15 donation. Please be sure to bring guest!
